This is part 1 of my conversation with Douglas Dowell. He is a lawyer who has been investing in real estate for many years. He has done a variety of real estate related w2 gigs, from mowing lawns for landlords to managing a 60-unit property, to office space leases for a major telecom company, to practicing landlord tenant law. He has now chosen to enter the real estate entrepreneur space with a focus on ground up multitenant retail and building to rent.  He is passionate about mindset management, capital raising, aviation and his deer head chihuahua named Roo. 

 

In this episode, Douglas Dowell discusses his experience analyzing his situation and recognizing when he needs to take action. He also recognizes that he needs to focus on becoming better at his core skills in order to improve his overall success. He recommends two books to anyone starting out in real estate: “Think and Grow Rich” and “Be Your Future Self Now.” He discusses how having friends who are willing to give honest feedback is important for anyone starting out in the industry. He talks about how his background in law has helped him navigate various legal issues that can arise during real estate investing.
